Congratulations to Dog High Jump Winner Disco the Kelpie and owner Georgina Poole. Disco reached a great height of 2.5m, not bad for a first go!
The Moree Show is doggy heaven!
Greg Burey and Greg Addis with Buster the Kelpie who will compete in this year's Moree Show High Jump.
Be it dodging burs or avoiding the hot outback ground underfoot; dogs in the North West have the best 'bounce', according to Moree Show Steward Greg Burey. And dogs from around the region will be able to show off these skills come Moree Showtime, April 16 to 18, at the ever-popular Dog High Jump event. The event, organised by Mr Burey and Greg Addis and sponsored by Glen Ferguson Farming, is one of the highlights of the show and dog owners are being urged to train up their dogs for this year's event. "Hundreds of dogs around the region are used to jumping on the back of utes, and this competition is not much different." Mr Burey said. And the competition is not just confined to working dogs, with Mr Addis adding that there were plenty of dogs in town who were able to evade their owners through a bit of fence jumping. "If they can jump on the back of a ute or over a fence then they're perfect!" "We've had all sorts of dogs enter in the past, all heights and breeds and it's quite surprising to see the results – one year a pig dog won." This year the winner of the event will win $200, with $30 for second placegetter and $20 for third, and there will also be plenty of Excelpet products up for grabs. Starting height for the jump is about 1 metre, with the jump going up in increments. "This year we will have a great new high jump thanks to Metaland and Moree Timber and Hardware, the community has been so supportive of the event which we're very thankful for." Always a crowd pleaser, this year's Dog High Jump will be held on Saturday, April 17 at 5.30. Mr Addis is also the Steward of the Yard Dog Trials, again being held at the 2010 Moree Show. Last year the Yard Dog Trials attracted a record number of entrants and he said the event had gradually been growing over the years. "Last year we had entrants from as far away as Scone and we're hoping for a good turn out again this year." The Moree Show Yard Dog Trials will be held Friday, April 16 at 2pm and Saturday, April 17 at 8am. Further information on the events can be found on www.moreeshow.com.au. The Moree Show will be held April 16 to 18.
