Moree Show memories flow at the Moree 125th Anniversary Black Tie Dinner
The Moree community took a nostalgic trip down memory lane in September 2009 at the 125th Moree Show Anniversary Dinner.
The night was a resounding success, with over 160 people glamming up for the Black Tie event, held at The Max Chandelier Ballroom.
Highlights of the evening included a specially scribed poem about the Moree Show by Master of Ceremonies Murray Hartin, plenty of dancing to live duo Green Limousine and a special Moree Show memorabilia display.
The display included a large range of rare show ribbons dating back to 1908, many old photos, showbooks, 1909 leather bound ledger books and hundreds of old newspaper clippings from over the years.
A number of dedicated Show Committee people were presented with Life Membership Awards, including Andrew Pitman, Nell Jones, Bernie Keitlinghaus, Ros O'Neill and John Appleby and Nell Jones and Elmer Knobel were also presented 50 Year Service Awards.
The special, one off dinner, was a celebration of the Moree Show's rich history and a chance for old friends, committee people and many former Moree residents to reunite.

Step Back in Time at a special Show Celebratory Dinner Fond Moree Show memories will come flooding back with a very special 125th Moree Show Anniversary Celebration in the planning. From the humble horse and cart to the rough and tumble demolition derby, the Annual Moree Show has seen it all. To celebrate the show's 125th anniversary a special committee has been formed to organise a night of fine dining, dancing and memorabilia for the community and anyone ever involved in the local show movement. A 125 Year Anniversary Celebratory Evening will take place at the Max Function Centre Chandelier Ballroom on Saturday, September 12, 2009. Committee member Joy Holmes said the evening, to be compared by well-known identity Murray Hartin, would be a wonderful opportunity for the community to reflect on and celebrate the local show movement. "It doesn't matter how young or old you are, anyone who has ever had anything to do with the show is invited to attend, the evening of course is open to the whole community," Mrs Holmes said. "Everyone has very fond memories from the show, which began in 1874, and I urge anyone with any memorabilia to get in contact as we will also have a great historic display." She also urged past showgirls to step forward, with organisers hoping to get as many Moree Showgirl nominees and winners to the event. As well as a historic exhibition the evening will also include local musical group ‘Simple, Triple' with a live band planned for after dinner. "There are numerous drawcards - dinner, dancing, Murray Hartin and a fantastic show exhibition so it's a very special one-off event," Mrs Holmes said. "The wonderful thing about the show is that it is an event for the whole community, and we want this to be reflected in the anniversary dinner also." After 125 years the local show was still one of the district's most popular events, this year named Moree's Community Event of the Year at the local Australia Day Awards.
