CATTLE RETURN TO THE MOREE SHOW!
The annual Moree Show continues to go from strength to strength, with 2010 marking the return of the Cattle Section after a five-year hiatus. Falling exhibitor numbers and a lack of leadership saw cattle showing at the Moree Show cease in 2005. Yet this is all being turned around, thanks to a fresh injection of enthusiasm and two years of planning by local girls Alice MacCue and Toni Jericho. "It's so important to have cattle at the local show, to showcase production in the area and also so exhibitors can show off their stud and generate business," Miss MacCue said. "The National Australia Bank have generously sponsored the event and we're currently working on getting as many exhibitors to the event as possible so it's a very exciting time." The 2010 NAB Cattle Section will also include Junior Judging and Junior Parading, with great prizemoney to be won. Miss MacCue said there were also some fantastic prizes and trophies to be won in the Interbreed classes, with sponsorship from many local businesses. Miss MacCue also admitted that the junior competition was close to her heart, having herself competed in junior judging events around the region since she was three years old. "If we don't have the young ones involved then where is the next generation going to come from." "There are so many schools in the region that have show cattle, encouraging judging and parading amongst the school kids, so we're hoping to get them all on board also." After 2008 when Alice was named the NSW RAS Rural Achiever and Toni won Moree Showgirl, both were inspired to become more involved in the local show movement. "It just made sense for us to try and resurrect the cattle section, it was a great loss to the show when it ceased, and it is something both Toni and I have always been involved in." She said she was extremely heartened by recent cattle shows, with the Inverell Show attracting 230 head. "The numbers are great around the region and it's a testament to the strength of the industry and the renewed popularity of the local show movement." The NAB Cattle Section will feature at the Moree Show on Saturday, April 17, starting at 11am after morning tea. "It's a great opportunity to showcase the industry and get the farmers off the farm for a fun social occasion," Miss MacCue said. Entry forms are available at www.moreeshow.com.au and the Moree Show will run from Friday April 16 to Sunday April 18, 2010.
